Actually it is the third fastest growing city in Russia because of its economical prosperity. Perm is known as Russia´s leading city for opera, ballet and drama after St. Petersburg. Arguably Russia´s greatest balerina, Anna Pavlova, was born in Perm. Furthermore the city and its region brought forward a number of famous people: the composer Tchaikovsky, inventor of the radio Popov, the industrial revolutionist Stroganov family and the writer of Dr. Zhivago, Boris Pasternak. Perm is not the only city in the Ural Mountains, yet it provides the best access to the mountains of all of them. The mountains gain popularity among adventurous tourists every year.
