Apd Unfair And Regressive
APD "unfair and regressive" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Air passenger duty (APD) - the tax on flights to and from the UK - has been described as "unfair" and "regressive" by a campaign group.
FlyingMatters conducted a survey in Britain"s ten most diverse constituencies and found that APD hits ethnic minorities and the poorest members of society hardest.
Over 60% of respondents in the lowest social bands and two thirds of ethnic minority individuals said the tax increase brought into effect last November will impact their ability to visit family abroad.
Just over half (55%) of the general population expressed the same view.
Nearly two thirds (65%) of ethnic minorities said they would consider cutting back on other holidays to ensure they can travel overseas to see family members.
Brian Wilson, chairman of FlyingMatters, said: "In these constituencies well over half the population have relatives living abroad. The increases in flight tax will hit these people hard with poorer families and ethnic minorities suffering most. It is a deeply regressive tax.
"Many of these people are being taxed out of the right to visit their loved ones. This is deeply unfair and politically insensitive."
