Travelex: Long-haul currencies booming by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Long-haul destinations are attracting increasing demand from British travellers, according to a report released by foreign exchange firm Travelex.
The company revealed that online orders for the New Zealand dollar rose 31% from December to January, placing the currency fourth in the overall sales chart ahead of South Africa"s rand.
On a year-on-year basis, sales of New Zealand"s currency increased by 65% last month, while the rand (76%) and Australia"s dollar (59%) also saw strong demand.
Another trend identified by Travelex in January was a rise in sales of the euro as a result of the strengthening pound.
Orders of the European currency were up 7% from December last month and 20% from January 2009, meaning it overtook the US dollar to regain its place at the top of the popularity chart.
The cold weather in the UK led to a strong interest in winter sun destinations, with Travelex seeing higher demand for Mauritius" rupee currency and the East Caribbean dollar.
