Australias Whitsundays Open As Normal
Australia"s Whitsundays "open as normal" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Travellers planning a trip to Australia"s Whitsunday Islands in the near future have been reassured that the region is "open as normal" despite the floods and cyclones that have hit Queensland in recent weeks.
The islands suffered minimal damage from cyclones Anthony and Yasi this week and were not affected by the floods.
Flights into Hamilton Island and the Whitsunday Coast airport and ferry services between the islands all resumed today (4 February), with tours to Whitehaven Beach, the Great Barrier Reef and around the archipelago due to return tomorrow.
The majority of the region has also had its power restored, including the main centre of Airlie Beach.
Peter O"Reilly, chief executive of Tourism Whitsundays, pointed out that storms and extreme weather events are not uncommon in the region, meaning the destination has measures in place to deal with them.
"The Whitsundays has been extremely lucky not to be a part of Queensland"s two major disasters in the past two months, having not flooded nor suffered much damage from two cyclones in a week," he added.
"We are definitely counting our lucky stars while also reaching out to offer victims accommodation in our region while we are unaffected."
