Most British Men Would Rather Propose Overseas
Most British men "would rather propose overseas" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The majority of British men would rather propose to their partner in a foreign country than pop the question at home, according to research.
Travelex carried out a survey of 3,000 UK males which found that six out of ten would prefer to make a marriage proposal during an overseas break.
Half of respondents said they had friends or family members who had recently got engaged in a foreign country.
New York emerged as the most appealing destination to pop the question, with 32% of respondents citing the city as their first choice, followed by Paris (29%) and Venice (16%).
People hoping to take a romantic overseas trip without breaking the bank could consider visiting Marbella in Spain, which is the most affordable of all the proposal destinations researched by Travelex.
Peter Davies, UK spokesman for the foreign exchange firm, pointed out that couples visiting eurozone destinations for a romantic getaway will benefit from recent exchange rate trends.
"The growing number of British Romeos planning on proposing overseas will be pleased to learn that a last-minute trip to romantic eurozone locations such as Paris are far better value for money compared with this time last year," he said.
"The pound is up over 4% against the euro year on year and this strengthening of currency, coupled with cut price deals, is putting the eurozone back into contention as a good value holiday destination."
