Manchester Airport Recognised For Carbon Reduction
Manchester airport recognised for carbon reduction by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Manchester airport has been officially certified at the "optimisation" level for environmental performance by the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme.
To achieve this recognition, an airport must demonstrate a year-on-year reduction in carbon emissions under its direct control and an accurate, independently audited carbon footprint.
The base must also show that it has helped to bring about a reduction in carbon output from sources that are out of its control, such as public travel to the site and aircraft.
In 2009, Manchester became the first UK airport to achieve the "reduction" level of accreditation and is now aiming to reach the final stage - "neutrality".
Neil Robinson, director of sustainability for the Manchester Airports Group, revealed that the base is aiming to cancel out its remaining emissions over the next four years.
He added: "Since 2009, we have developed our skills and knowledge and by sharing this with our partners through the carbon challenge, the wider airport community and the industry, we know we can further cut carbon emissions from our operations and heavily reduce emissions from across the entire site."
