Brits Would Give Up Alcohol Before Holidays
Brits "would give up alcohol before holidays" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
It could be a long time before the credit crunch stops Brits from taking holidays, with a recent survey finding that people would give up alcohol and takeaways before their annual breaks if they needed to save money.
Research commissioned by bmibaby, the low-cost subsidiary of bmi, found that 58% of people would sacrifice their weekly takeaway and 39% would stop drinking to cut their expenditure this year.
More than half (51%) of the people surveyed said they would also give up nights out to save some money.
When asked if they were willing to cut out their holiday to save some pennies, however, less than a third (27%) of respondents said that they would be prepared to miss out on their annual break.
Julian Carr, commercial director of bmibaby, said: "The credit crunch is making people think carefully about their spending priorities for 2009 and question what they want to give up or save money on.
"The survey results show that people are prepared to cut back on "luxuries" such as takeaways and nights out in order to still go on their annual summer holiday, which is sacrosanct to many."
Mr Carr said that this trend is confirmed by the strong demand the airline has seen this year for traditional summer holiday destinations such as Spain and Portugal.
