Penny Guy, a spokesperson for the PSA, said that the sector is enjoying a boost in profile at the moment, with a number of new promotional and marketing activities being launched.
The coming year will also see the introduction of some 14 new cruise ships, according to the PSA representative, which will help attract consumer attention to the industry and the value for money it offers.
Ms Guy said: "I think we can see at the moment that there are extremely good value deals available in the cruise market.
"There"s a lot of advertising going on at the moment and the value for money is exceptional in comparison with many other types of land-based holidays."
A similar view was expressed recently by the industry news and reviews website CruiseCritic, which said that 2009 would be "the year of the deal" in the cruise market.
