Holidays Important To Britain This Year
Holidays "important to Britain this year" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Foreign holidays could be an important part of Britain"s economy this year and a valuable pick-me-up for people feeling the effects of the credit crunch, according to a report by the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta).
Research by the travel association found that 66% of people cite their summer holiday as a source of a big emotional boost.
Overall, Brits consider summer holidays to have three times the value of a pay rise, according to the survey, while nearly half of the population believe that a break is vital to get away from the stress of the credit crunch.
Psychotherapist Christine Webber, who worked on the Abta research, said: "Holidays are not just about the two weeks away. The feel-good impact is felt from the moment you start to pick a destination and, in these troubled times, the whole process offers welcome relief from the gloom.
"The nation is suffering from collective stress at the moment - January is a particularly depressing month at the best of times - and holidays are one way of keeping the UK on an even keel."
Abta reported that many companies have seen strong demand for holiday bookings this year, with destinations such as Egypt, Turkey and Orlando, as well as cruises, proving popular.
Despite the economic situation, 68% of respondents to the survey said they are prepared to increase their holiday budget in 2009 or spend the same as they did last year.
