Italy Visitors Given Run Down Of Spectacular Events
Italy visitors given run-down of "spectacular events" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The state tourist board of Italy has provided holidaymakers with a run-down of the "spectacular events" they will be able to enjoy in the country in 2009.
Venice will get the year of celebrations underway when it hosts its annual carnival between 13 and 24 February.
The event will give visitors the opportunity to experience the history of Venice, with a number of retro-themed parties, balls and street celebrations, many of which will be free of charge.
Rome will be the more likely destination for sport fans this spring when it hosts the Six Nations, with Italy playing home matches on 15 February, 14 March and 21 March.
A more unusual sporting occasion, the Calcio Storico, will be held in Florence in June.
This event sees teams of 27 young men from each of the four Florentine quarters – San Giovanni, Santa Maria Novella, Santo Spirito and Santa Croce – take part in a tournament that combines football with competitive fighting.
A more cultured option will be on offer in Palermo, Sicily from 20 to 22 March, when opera singer Andrea Bocelli will perform in Faust at the Teatro Massimo.
