East Midlands airport "branching out" with new sculpture by Cheap Flights Booker UK
East Midlands airport has announced that it is "branching out" with the installation of a new tree sculpture that appears to break through the floor and reach up to the terminal ceiling.
The airport said that the sculpture, which was unveiled by transport secretary Geoff Hoon on 27 February, provides a "unique welcome" for passengers.
As well as having a symbolic meaning relating to growth and success, the tree has been declared a "kissing zone" where people can be reunited with loved ones who are returning from overseas.
The sculpture also features three television screens that show some of the famous places to visit in the East Midlands region.
Penny Coates, the airport"s managing director, said: "The tree symbolises not only how far the region has come in terms of innovation and growth, but also signifies the dynamic future for tourism in the East Midlands.
"The project"s aim is to both inform and inspire passengers by highlighting the region"s unique qualities and strengths, also giving them the opportunity to instantly access more detailed information on many of the local attractions."
East Midlands airport recently presented a stand at the Destinations travel show in Birmingham promoting its connections to India, as well as summer holiday hotspots such as Ibiza, Almeria and Mahon.
