New Measures To Put Air Passengers First
New measures "to put air passengers first" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
New regulatory measures are being launched by the government with the aim of ensuring that airports put their passengers first.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will be given a new "primary duty" to focus on the interests of airport customers, who will also be protected by Passenger Focus, a watchdog that currently represents bus and rail users.
A secondary duty of the CAA under the new measures will be to ensure that airports meet their environmental targets.
Transport secretary Geoff Hoon said that putting passengers at the heart of airport regulation will ensure that the UK has an "efficient and competitive aviation sector".
He added: "Passengers have told us that although they are broadly happy with their experience of airports, they want things like more seating areas, more toilets, better flight information and more baggage carousels open at busy times - these are the exactly the kind of issues that we will expect the CAA to address in discharging its new duty."
The CAA welcomed the announcement from the government, saying that it reflected the "growing consensus" that passenger experience is the most important aspect of airport regulation.
