New Tourist Sites To Be Developed In Sri Lanka
New tourist sites to be developed in Sri Lanka by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Sri Lanka Tourism has announced a project to develop brand new travel destinations in the country.
Part of a bid to make the island nation "one of the most sought-after holiday destinations in south Asia", the initiative will include the development of the Kalpitiya islands 150km north of Colombo.
The islands most suitable for the project will be selected and, over the next ten to 12 years, will be upgraded to support sustainable tourism and attract a varied visitor profile.
Highlights of the new destinations will include botanical gardens, marine sanctuaries and opportunities to see wildlife including whales, dolphins and birds.
Bernard Goonetilleke of Sri Lanka Tourism said: "This project will not only develop the area which has hitherto been unexplored, but also provide employment to the people in the area, provide livelihood to the fishermen and improve the economic situation of Kalpitiya."
The initiative could see Sri Lanka become an even more prominent part of the south Asia travel scene, providing competition for popular destinations such as Thailand, Hong Kong and Indonesia.
