Qantas, Etihad announce codeshare agreement by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Flag-carrying airlines Qantas and Etihad Airways have announced a new codeshare agreement that will improve travel connections throughout the Middle East and Australasia.
Qantas will codeshare on 21 weekly Etihad flights linking Abu Dhabi to Melbourne and Sydney, as well as Brisbane via Singapore.
Etihad, in turn, will share codes on selected Qantas services between Australia and Auckland in New Zealand, as well as domestic connections linking Sydney to Cairns and Brisbane.
Qantas executive general manager John Borghetti described the deal as "a significant strategic development" for the airline.
He added: "For the first time, Qantas will be able to offer direct access to multiple points in the Middle East from Sydney, Melbourne and from Brisbane."
Etihad chief executive James Hogan said: "We have a growing presence in Australia and are now pleased to be establishing this strategic codeshare relationship with Qantas."
Qantas announced recently that it will launch flights linking seven Australian cities, including Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, to Mumbai in India via Singapore on 2 June.
