Qantas supports new Australian tourism initiative by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Qantas has announced its support for the $10m (£4.8m) tourism industry support package launched by the Australian government following the recent bushfires in the south-eastern state of Victoria.
The initiative will aid the recovery of the tourism industry in areas affected by the fire by providing marketing and infrastructure support for local destinations and operators.
David Epstein, Qantas" executive general manager for government and corporate affairs, said the support would help rebuild local economies by attracting interstate and international visitors back to Victoria.
"Tourism is worth more than a billion dollars each year to the Yarra Valley, the Dandenong Ranges, Gippsland and the High Country. The viability of the sector is absolutely critical to their local economies and thousands of local jobs," Mr Epstein added.
"For Qantas" part, we welcome this package and hope to see bookings and visitor numbers begin to reflect the increased investment in tourism marketing and infrastructure."
Qantas operates flights from Melbourne, the capital of Victoria, to destinations including London, Shanghai, Los Angeles and Auckland.
