Western Australia Seizes On Spanish Tourism Gaffe
Western Australia seizes on Spanish tourism gaffe by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Western Australia has seized on a blunder in an advertising campaign for Spain"s Costa Brava region as an opportunity to promote its own beaches.
It was revealed recently that the Costa Brava tourist board used a picture taken at a beach in Perth as part of an initiative to celebrate the centenary of the Spanish holiday region.
Tourism Western Australia highlighted that people who want to see the real thing can visit City Beach in Perth, 10,000 miles away from Spain.
Located about a 15-minute drive outside the centre of the city, the stretch of coastline is reportedly considered one of Perth"s best beaches owing to its white sand and good surfing conditions.
Elen Thomas, PR manager for Tourism Western Australia, said: "Those going to Costa Brava in search of the picturesque beach shown in their ads will be sorely disappointed.
"The clean white sand and endless blue skies in the image are only to be found in Perth, where you can actually have a whole stretch of beach to yourself rather than fighting for a patch of sand."
The Costa Brava tourist board was embroiled in similar controversy recently when it emerged that it had used a promotional image of a woman on a clear beach that was in fact taken in the Bahamas.
