British Tourism Boom Will Last
British tourism boom "will last" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The British tourism industry will continue to see increased interest after the recession has come to an end, according to the British Resorts and Destinations Association.
Peter Hampson, director of the association, explained that the UK tourism industry was "in freefall" between the late 1970s and the mid-90s when overseas travel skyrocketed and investment in domestic destinations fell.
Now, however, people are beginning to recognise the UK travel scene for the "wonderful, on-your-doorstep product that it is", according to Mr Hampson.
He added: "It is so flexible, because it can be half a day to a fortnight...within a couple of hours you can be in the Highlands of Scotland or in the middle of Birmingham, there is such a variety."
VisitBritain released a survey at the beginning of April which showed that more than one in five adults were planning at least one overnight trip for Easter, nearly three-quarters of whom were intending to visit a destination in England.
According to research published by the tourism agency earlier in the year, less than half (45%) of British adults are planning to cut back on holidays this year, despite the fact that 90% of people are hoping to reduce overall spending.
