Demand For Travel Higher In 2009
Demand for travel "higher in 2009" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Demand for travel has increased this year, despite the credit crunch and the recession, according to research by Eurostar.
The high-speed rail operator released survey results showing that 68% of adults have plans this year to take a holiday - defined as a stay of at least five nights, excluding visits to family - compared to 65% in 2008.
It was also discovered that holidays are second on the list of spending priorities for Brits, ahead of eating out, buying new clothes and entertainment.
Nearly half of the people polled said they prefer to take a number of short breaks throughout the year rather than one long holiday, while over a third will choose a "tried and tested" destination for their getaway.
Eurostar chief executive Richard Brown said: "It is clear from this report that we value our holidays now more than ever, as we prioritise the need to escape and recharge the batteries.
"However, with all the compromises that people are making to ensure they can still get away, overall value has never been so important."
The rail operator is expecting some 200,000 travellers to use its services to and from Europe over the Easter weekend.
