Meet The Drunken Dragon In Macau
Meet the Drunken Dragon in Macau by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Travellers will be offered some unusual experiences in Macau over the coming months as the administrative region of China hosts a variety of events including the Feast of the Drunken Dragon.
Set to take place on 2 May, the festival has its origins in a Buddhist story of a group of villagers who were saved by a monk who killed a serpent monster and cured the people of disease.
Buddhists celebrate the occasion by cleaning statues of the Buddha, while local fishermen in Macau perform a "drunken dance" with wooden dragon heads and tails.
The procession of dancers leads from Senado Square towards the inner harbour and offers plenty of opportunities to eat, drink and take in the festive atmosphere along the way.
Macau will be hosting a number of other events this spring, including the Arts Festival from 2 to 30 May and the International Dragon Boat Festival on 28 May.
The destination is one of two special administrative regions of China, along with Hong Kong.
