Milestone reached in Norwegian Epic construction by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL) has announced a major milestone in the construction of its new liner Norwegian Epic with the lowering of the ship"s bow.
The section of the ship, which weighed 445 tonnes and was 26 metres long by 33 metres wide, was put into place by 100 workers at the STX Europe shipyard in St Nazaire, France.
Norwegian Epic will have the capacity to carry some 4,200 passengers when it is completed and delivered in May 2010.
Roberto Martinoli, president and chief operating officer of NCL, said: "Embarking the bow is a symbolic and strong step in the building of Norwegian Epic. She is taking shape beautifully.
"STX Europe is doing an incredible job of constructing our largest and most innovative Freestyle Cruising ship to date."
Norwegian Epic"s 2010-11 sailings - which will include eastern and western Caribbean voyages from Miami - will go on sale on 20 May this year.
NCL"s fleet of ships also includes Norwegian Dawn, Norwegian Majesty and Pride of America, which sail to destinations such as the Bahamas, Hawaii and Canada.
