Swiss launched its first new Airbus A330 on its inaugural commercial flight today (20 April) from Zurich to New York.
Some 227 passengers were on the plane and, according to Swiss, enjoyed a "totally new inflight product in all three seating classes".
Highlights of the airline"s new long-haul Airbus A330s include more leg room in economy, an air-cushioned seat that can be turned into a lie-flat seat in business and a full suite in first class.
The first plane to be deployed on a commercial flight went through a formal "roll-in" ceremony at Zurich airport during which it was given the name "Schwyz" after the town in central Switzerland.
Swiss chief executive Christoph Franz said: "Swiss today stands on firm foundations in a turbulent business environment. All our personnel have worked very hard for this moment.
"In putting our first more efficient Airbus A330-300 into service, we are further consolidating our market position and underlining our ongoing strategic investments in our corporate future."
Swiss operates an international network of flights from Zurich that includes connections to Athens, Los Angeles, Shanghai and Birmingham.
