Fco Advises Against Travel To Mexico
FCO advises against travel to Mexico by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Britain"s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has updated its guidelines to recommend that people avoid all but essential travel to Mexico.
The new warnings follow the outbreak of the swine influenza virus in the country, which is now thought to have claimed the lives of some 150 people.
While the virus has spread to countries including the United States, Canada, Spain and Britain, there have not yet been any reports of fatalities outside Mexico.
The FCO said that foreign visitors to Mexico had been advised by the country"s government to avoid large crowds, shaking hands and kissing people as a greeting.
Staying at least six feet away from other people and keeping one"s hands clean could also lower the risk of exposure to swine flu, the government department said.
Speaking to BBC News, England"s chief medical officer Sir Liam Donaldson said that the government had been preparing for the emergence of a new strain of flu for five years, meaning antiviral drugs have been stockpiled to provide to affected people as quickly as possible.
