Travellers Invited On A Treasure Hunt In Scotland
Travellers invited on a treasure hunt in Scotland by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Visit Scotland has invited tourists to get involved in Bequest, a treasure hunt offering the opportunity to find a £10,000 gold and diamond mouse once owned by the poet Robert Burns.
Legend has it that Burns hid the item as a gift for his lover and gave clues to its whereabouts in letters that were intercepted by his wife and hidden, only being discovered recently.
The Bequest initiative - set up by Joe Gibbs, co-promoter of Belladrum Tartan Heart festival - invites visitors to log onto a website to view the letters and to try to find the precious mouse.
Mr Gibbs said: "I have long been an admirer of Kit Williams" 1970s book-based hunt for a golden hare - Masquerade - and decided the current economic circumstances were auspicious to launch a web-based treasure hunt.
"We decided on a Burns theme because…it is one of the major themes of Homecoming Scotland."
Homecoming Scotland is a tourism initiative set up this year to mark the 250th anniversary of Burns" birth, which will see hundreds of events held in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and many other destinations across the country.
