Biometric Security Being Trialled In The US
Biometric security being trialled in the US by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The US department of homeland security (DHS) has begun trialling biometric security measures at two airports.
A pilot programme at Hartsfield Jackson airport in Atlanta and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County airport is collecting digital fingerprints from non-US citizens on their way out of the country.
The DHS claims that biometric security measures used since 2004 have helped prevent the use of fraudulent documents, protected visitors from identity theft and stopped criminals from entering the United States.
Department secretary Janet Napolitano said that the security checks allow authorities to determine quickly whether travellers have remained in the country illegally.
She added: "The pilot programs in Atlanta and Detroit will help us determine and develop standard procedures for use at airports across the country to expedite legitimate travel and enhance our nation"s security."
The trials at the airports in Detroit and Atlanta - which are among the busiest in the US - are set to continue until early July.
