Britain Prepares For Bank Holiday Getaway
Britain prepares for bank holiday getaway by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The forthcoming bank holiday weekend is set to see 1.8m British people embark on an overseas trip, according to Abta - The Travel Association.
Spain, the perennial British favourite, is set to remain popular with people taking holidays between 22 and 25 May, a period that also marks the start of the school half-term break.
The top five city break destinations are Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin, Rome and New York, according to Abta.
Florida will be one of the top long-haul destinations, while Turkey and Egypt will also see healthy visitor numbers owing to the fact that they are outside the eurozone.
Abta president Justin Fleming said: "In spite of the recession, passenger numbers this bank holiday weekend are very healthy, showing that the British love affair with foreign travel is as strong as ever."
The travel association released research earlier this year which showed that 68% of British people are prepared to spend at least as much on holidays in 2009 as they did last year, despite the economic downturn.
