The national tourist board of Canada has launched a campaign encouraging travellers to see some of the country"s northerly destinations
Nunavut Tourism, Northwest Territories Tourism and other agencies have been invited to participate in a joint campaign with the Canadian Tourism Commission to make the north a "must see now destination".
The cooperative partnership will enable more widespread promotion of the tourism opportunities on offer in northern Canada, which include hiking in the Yukon region"s Kluane National Park and visiting Inuit communities.
Diane Ablonczy, a tourism spokesperson for the Canadian government, said: "The synergy afforded by this agreement has great potential, particularly with the opportunity to leverage the 2010 Winter Games to drive tourism to the north.
"Canada"s northern territories truly differentiate our country as a tourism destination. This initiative supports the government of Canada"s efforts for the growth and future sustainability of Canada"s tourism industry."
The 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held in Vancouver in February and March next year.
