Finnair marks 40 years of long-haul flights by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Finnair is this week celebrating 40 years of offering long-haul services as it marks the 40th anniversary of its flights to New York.
The Finnish airline"s service to New York, which launched on 15 May 1969, represented its first intercontinental connection.
For the first 15 years, the flights were operated via Copenhagen and Amsterdam, with a non-stop link not available until 1984 when Finnair acquired the DC-10, its first wide-bodied aircraft.
Today, New York remains one of Finnair"s most important international destinations, with daily direct flights to the city from Helsinki.
The airline is currently placing a greater emphasis on its long-haul network, with expansions at its hub at Helsinki Vantaa airport and additions to its fleet facilitating more services to far-flung destinations.
Finnair has also been expanding its European presence this year, launching new flights from Helsinki to Pisa in Italy that offer access to the popular holiday region of Tuscany.
