Nicole Kidman Movie Boosts Interest In Western Australia
Nicole Kidman movie boosts interest in Western Australia by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The state of Western Australia has seen a major boost in profile as a result of the film Australia starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, according to the local tourist board.
Much of the Baz Luhrmann movie was filmed in the state and a AU$2.2m (£1.1m) marketing campaign was launched last November to promote the locations that appear in the film.
Approximately 70% of the customers who have made reservations this year at Home Valley Station - a cattle station and new tourism venture 110km from the town of Kununurra - heard about the property through its association with the film Australia.
Adventure tours in the rugged Kimberley region have also been increasingly popular, with tour operators reporting substantial increases in bookings this year.
Commenting on the trend, Christie Lord of Tourism Western Australia said: "Luhrmann"s Australia has put the Kimberley firmly on the map and inspired filmgoers to experience the epic beauty of the towering gorges and lush waterholes themselves."
Tenerife will be one of the destinations hoping to benefit from movie exposure in the future with the release of Clash of the Titans, which is being filmed on the Canary island this year.
