Scottish Mountains Get A Spring Clean
Scottish mountains get a "spring clean" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The Nevis Range and Cairngorm mountains in Scotland recently benefited from a "spring clean" courtesy of the Ski Club of Great Britain.
An event arranged on the last weekend of May saw volunteers from as far afield as Australia remove dozens of bags of rubbish from the hillside.
All sorts of unusual items were discovered in the clean-up, including a 19-year-old Marathon chocolate bar wrapper, a ski boot, a plastic sledge and a bin lid.
Lizzie Crookenden of the Ski Club of Great Britain, who ran the event at Cairngorm, said: "In general the resort was cleaner than you may expect but all the same we picked up a good amount of rubbish.
"It is hard to imagine how long some of the items take to break down, even something like a banana skin can take over a year to bio-degrade. The day was undoubtedly a success with over 60 people volunteering to help clear up our mountains on what was a fantastic sunny day."
This year"s event was the Ski Club"s second mountain spring clean following the introduction of the initiative in 2008.
Cairngorm mountain is located near Aviemore, west of Aberdeen, while Nevis Range is situated in the Highlands near Ben Nevis and Fort William.
