Virgin Atlantic marks 25th birthday by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Virgin Atlantic has marked its 25th birthday today by recreating its very first flight to New York, which departed from London Heathrow on 22 June 1984.
Sir Richard Branson, president of the airline, was onboard the flight, along with other celebrities and VIPs including current England cricketer Kevin Pietersen and former player Sir Ian Botham.
Prior to the departure, the birthday celebrations saw Sir Richard joined on the wing of the Boeing 747 by model Kate Moss.
Speaking at Heathrow, the airline president said: "It seems a long time ago that we took that first flight in 1984 and so much has been achieved since then.
"We would like to thank the millions of travellers that have put their faith in us and the thousands of staff who have created such a great airline."
Prime minister Gordon Brown also commented on Virgin Atlantic"s 25th birthday, commending the airline for its "pioneering spirit".
Virgin Atlantic has been building up to its anniversary celebrations throughout the year by offering special fares to destinations such as Shanghai and Chicago.
