Virgin Atlantic orders ten new Airbus planes by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Virgin Atlantic has announced a $2.1bn (£1.3bn) order for ten new Airbus A330 aircraft and said that the move is indicative of its confidence in future growth.
The aircraft - which have the capacity to carry up to 270 passengers and are more fuel efficient than the A340 model - will be delivered in 2011 and 2012.
Virgin Atlantic"s future growth will be supported by the arrival of the planes, which will enable the airline to offer flights to Beijing, Cancun, Vancouver and other new destinations from London.
New technological features in the aircraft will include USB ports at every seat and the option for passengers to send and receive text messages and emails on mobile devices.
Steve Ridgway, chief executive of Virgin Atlantic, said: "Despite the worst economic conditions in decades, we are focusing on sustainable growth in the years ahead using the most fuel-efficient aircraft possible.
"Virgin Atlantic has a strong history of successfully investing during a downturn and our Airbus order today sends a strong signal that now is the time to invest, in order to help protect jobs and get the world"s economy moving again."
The airline celebrated its 25th birthday this week by launching a special flight to New York.
