Brits Planning 56m Trips This Summer
Brits "planning 56m trips this summer" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Some 56m holidays will be taken by British people this summer, despite the impact of the recession and the credit crunch, according to research.
The survey by Sainsbury"s Travel Insurance found that the economic situation is in fact encouraging people to take more breaks, with 670,000 people reportedly planning to go away more than usual to escape "recession depression".
On average, British travellers spend £784 per person on each of their holidays, adding up to a total of £43.86bn that will be forked out this summer.
More than a third (36%) of the people surveyed said they would be travelling in the eurozone this year, despite the weak value of the pound, while 63% will be taking at least one break in the UK.
Sam Marrs, manager of Sainsbury"s Travel Insurance, said: "Despite tough economic conditions, it would appear that rather than sacrificing our holidays, we Britons may even be taking more breaks in a bid to put all the credit crunch doom and gloom behind us."
Jonathan Mitcham, principal researcher for Which? Holiday, recently advised people looking for an affordable break to consider destinations outside the eurozone such as Croatia, Egypt or Turkey.
