Brits Prepared To Fly Solo
Brits "prepared to fly solo" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Many British travellers are willing to go it alone in order to fulfil their travel ambitions, according to a study by research firm Mintel.
The company found that the number of solo travellers in Britain has grown by around 5% over the past five years and could rise to 5m this year.
More than one in eight long-haul holidays are taken alone, according to the research, and a third of people under the age of 65 living in single-person households have travelled solo.
Mintel also found that certain destinations and regions are popular for lone travellers, such as Austria, Switzerland, Australasia and Africa.
Tom Rees, senior travel analyst at the research company, said: "Although the majority of holidays are still taken within the traditional family or couple units, as the frequency and variety of holidays have grown in recent years, people have increasingly had the means, desire and opportunity to go on holidays catering to their individual tastes.
"Consequently, there has been a rise in the number of Brits travelling alone and with friends or groups outside of the traditional family and couples units."
Mintel also conducted research on the US travel market this year, finding that road trips and family visits are proving popular.
