Cycle Routes Will Benefit New Zealand Tourism
Cycle routes "will benefit New Zealand tourism" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Plans to launch up to seven new cycling routes in New Zealand have been welcomed by the country"s tourism industry.
New Zealand prime minister John Key recently revealed that the government had allocated the first $9m (£3.6m) of a $50m cycleway fund, meaning that work on seven new projects can begin in November.
Tourism Industry Association New Zealand said that the new cycling routes could prove particularly beneficial for the country"s regional travel markets.
Tim Cossar, chief executive of the association, said: "It"s great to see that work on these first cycleway projects will be progressing swiftly and that regional communities have come on board to support so many projects so quickly.
"The cycle routes that have been identified cover a wide regional spread and are located in areas where cyclists will not only be able to experience some of New Zealand"s awesome natural scenery but also learn a great deal about our country"s regional history, culture and heritage."
Mr Cossar also stressed that the routes will need marketing investment if they are to be successful, pointing out that it took nearly ten years to make the Otago Rail Trail as popular as it is today.
There are opportunities for travellers to try many other active pursuits in New Zealand, such as hiking, hot-air ballooning and skiing.
