Etihad, American Airlines In Codeshare Deal
Etihad, American Airlines in codeshare deal by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Etihad Airways and American Airlines have put forward a new codeshare proposal that is awaiting regulatory approval from the US government.
If it goes ahead, the deal will enable Etihad to develop its international network by linking Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates to North American cities such as Washington, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Houston.
American Airlines will also be able to place its "AA" code on Etihad"s flights from its home base to European destinations including Paris, Frankfurt, Manchester and Milan.
James Hogan, chief executive of the Abu Dhabi-based airline, said: "The United States represents a key market for Etihad and one in which we are keen to grow further, both through the addition of new routes of our own, such as Chicago, and through close cooperation with other well-established airlines such as American Airlines.
Gerard Arpey, chairman of American Airlines, added: "Our new codeshare agreement will give customers of Etihad and American Airlines increased choice, convenience and flexibility in their travels between the Americas, the Middle East and beyond."
Etihad also announced recently that it had signed a deal with Cyprus Airways that will pave the way for a codeshare arrangement between the carriers in the future.
