French VAT Cut Welcomed By Eurostar
French VAT cut welcomed by Eurostar by Cheap Flights Booker UK
A large reduction in VAT paid on meals in France has been welcomed by high-speed rail operator Eurostar.
The rate of tax on meals in French restaurants and cafes was recently cut from 19.6% to just 5.5% to match the level of VAT on food sold in supermarkets.
According to Eurostar, the fall in the rate of taxation offsets the substantial increase in the value of the euro against the pound that occurred last year.
Simon Montague, the rail provider"s director of communications, said: "This is really good news for travellers wanting to take a short holiday in France.
"A little break can make a big difference, and this large reduction in VAT on meals in restaurants and cafes will make people"s money go further."
Eurostar, which provides trains to Calais, Lille, Paris and Brussels, recently announced that it had put its direct ski services to the French Alps on sale for the winter season.
