PSA Backs Abta Flight Tax Campaign
PSA backs Abta flight tax campaign by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The Passenger Shipping Association (PSA) has given its backing to Abta, the travel agents" association, in its campaign to urge the government to abandon plans to increase air passenger duty (APD).
If the tax rise goes ahead, it will have a "significant effect" on cruise lines that offer fly-cruises to long-haul destinations such as the Caribbean, according to the PSA.
Bill Gibbons, director of the association, pointed out that the increase in cost for travellers would also have a damaging effect on tourism industries in developing countries around the world.
He added: "Last year, 194,000 passengers took a fly-cruise to the Caribbean and it is inevitable people will think twice when faced with such a high tax.
"We will work hand-in-hand with Abta to ensure there"s a concerted industry effort and combined voice on this issue."
Virgin Atlantic president Sir Richard Branson recently described the UK government"s tax increases as "out of control" and urged travellers to write to their local MP to express their own concerns.
