Turkish Lira Third Most Popular Currency
Turkish lira "third most popular currency" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The Turkish lira was the third most popular foreign currency among British people in the second quarter of the year, behind only the traditional favourites of the euro and the US dollar, according to research.
M&S Money released a report showing that sales of the Turkish lira increased 27% in quarter two compared to the same period last year.
The research also showed a 20% rise in orders of the Egyptian pound, making it the sixth most popular currency, while the Canadian dollar and the Czech koruna also appeared in the top ten.
James Yerkess, M&S Travel Money manager, said: "The increased strength of the euro against the pound means that holidaymakers have been looking at destinations outside the eurozone in the past year.
"Egypt and Turkey have become increasingly popular among Brits."
In the long-haul market, the M&S research showed that travellers are showing an interest in Fiji and Thailand, with orders for both countries" currencies increasing in the second quarter.
