US Still Attracting Interest From Brits
US "still attracting interest from Brits" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
International Currency Exchange (Ice) has released research showing that the US remains one of the top holiday destinations for British travellers, despite a drop in the value of sterling.
The pound has fallen by 17.5% in value against the US dollar since June 2008, but this did not prevent a 105% increase in orders for the American currency between May and June this year, Ice revealed.
While the euro remains the most popular foreign currency with Brits, both the Croatian kuna and the Turkish lira were in the top six on the list, suggesting that holidaymakers are showing an interest in European destinations that have their own currency.
Andrew Hamilton, head of marketing for Ice, said: "Over the last 12 months, the top three currencies ordered online remain unchanged, with the euro accounting for 55% of orders, while US dollar orders jumped from 18% in June 2008 to 30% this year.
"The pound has recovered against the euro by 12%, but it is still down compared to 12 months ago. This means UK holidaymakers are flocking to the likes of Turkey and Croatia, pushing up sales of these currencies."
The Canadian dollar was the third most popular currency in June, according to the currency firm, while the Thai baht and the Australian dollar were fifth and seventh respectively.
