Brits Love Greek Holidays
Brits "love Greek holidays" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Some 3m people from across the UK take flights to Greece each year, the country"s tourist board has said.
Sophia Panayiotaki, director of the UK and Ireland office at the Greek National Tourism Organisation, said that Britons account for a fifth of total visitors to the Mediterranean destinations.
The tourist board chief added that people from the UK make up the largest proportion of visitors to Greece, while residents of other countries like Germany and France were also fond of travelling to the eastern European nation.
"Mainly the islands are popular, although we do see a trend for city breaks," she suggested.
"During the summer from April to late September, Britons go to the islands like Corfu in the Ionian Islands, Zante, Santorini, Mykonos, Rhodes and Crete."
Ms Panayiotaki"s comments defy recent figures from the Touristic Research Institute, which suggested that there has been an 8% decline in visitor numbers to Greece in the first seven months of 2009.
