Brits Turning To Overseas Destinations
Brits "turning to overseas destinations" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Overseas destinations are proving attractive for an increasing number of British holidaymakers who have been put off the idea of staying at home by forecasts of poor weather, according to BAA.
The airport operator said that a revised outlook from the Met Office - which had initially forecast a good summer in the UK - has led to an increase in late bookings for foreign holidays.
Some travel agents have reportedly seen an increase in business of up to 40% compared to the same time last year and a 30% rise in demand over the past two weeks.
From Stansted airport, destinations with their own currencies like Romania, Turkey and Australia are proving popular, as well as eurozone hotspots such as Spain, Cyprus, Greece and Portugal.
Mark Souter, head of airline relations at the airport, said: "Stansted is a perfect choice if you"re looking for a late break, whether a weekend or a longer holiday.
"We have airlines flying to 150 destinations this summer."
Stansted saw one of its busiest periods of the year so far between 17 and 20 July, the first weekend of the summer holiday period, when nearly 300,000 passengers used the airport.
