Heathrow reports third-busiest month on record by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Airport operator BAA has released figures showing that London Heathrow experienced its busiest July since 2006 last month and the third-busiest month in its history.
The hub handled some 6.5m passengers in July, an increase of 0.9% on the previous year.
Overall, BAA said that its UK airports showed "further signs of stabilising" last month, handling a total of 14.5m passengers. This number is down 2.4% on last year, following steeper reductions of 5.9% in June and 7.3% in May.
In Scotland, Edinburgh airport recorded its fourth consecutive month of growth, with a 5.6% year-on-year increase in its traffic figures.
Across the whole BAA group, European scheduled traffic increased by 1.2% and long-haul activity, excluding the north Atlantic market, rose by 4.8%.
Traffic on UK domestic routes fell by 4.8% and European charters were down 18.6% in July.
BAA recently announced plans to develop London Heathrow"s second terminal to provide a new home for Star Alliance carriers such as bmi, Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines.
