Holiday Money Should Be Exchanged In Cash
Holiday money "should be exchanged in cash" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Britons travelling abroad for their summer vacation have been advised to change their money into foreign currency in cash.
Dan Moore, senior researcher at Which? Money, said that debit and credit card holders can lose money if they change currency online.
This is because of delivery fees and other charges levied by providers when money-changing transactions are made.
"We go along and we buy online because they are saying that they have a slightly better rate than everyone else and then you end up with a 2.5% to 2.75% cash handling fee. This wipes out any advantage you would have buying the currency," Mr Moore explained.
"A big advice is to get cash out of a hole in a wall in the UK, walk across the road to any of the exchange bureaus and pay in cash. That will save you the 2.5% charge on your card."
The pound recently hit a ten-month high against the US dollar and a one-month high against the euro.
