JAL To Reintroduce Fuel Surcharge
JAL to reintroduce fuel surcharge by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Japan Airlines (JAL) is planning to reintroduce the fuel surcharge on its tickets.
The carrier has requested the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to add the tax to all tickets issued from the fourth quarter of the year.
JAL had removed the fuel surcharge on tickets issued between 1 July and 30 September as a result of lower oil prices.
However, a recent rise in the cost of oil has led the airline to call for the reinstatement of the tax on tickets issued after 1 October.
"The company is continuously conducting a wide range of countermeasures to limit the full impact of the price," JAL said in a statement.
These include "fuel hedging, fuel consumption reductions and the introduction of more fuel-efficient small and medium-sized aircraft to its fleet".
Surcharges on tickets issued between January and March 2010 will depend on oil prices between August and October 2009.
