Sustainable Tourism Can Green The Global Economy

Sustainable tourism can "green the global economy" by Cheap Flights Booker UK

The UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has launched a campaign to raise the profile of the sustainable tourism sector as a way of improving the eco-friendliness of the global economy.
According to the organisation, the tourism industry is "at the frontline" of pressing issues such as climate change and the worldwide recession, but does not receive the attention it deserves in discussions on these subjects involving global powers.
The UNWTO has teamed up with the European Travel Commission (ETC) and Visit Sweden to arrange the Gothenburg Symposium, an event due to be held on 14 and 15 September that will address issues of sustainability with regards to tourism.
Rob Franklin, executive director of the ETC, said the event will help national tourism organisations (NTOs) to be aware of the opportunities and potential problems facing the industry.
"Climate change is a driver of sustainable development, and NTOs need to pay attention to global and European-level policies and programmes that will help them maintain and improve their market share," he said.
A meeting of various UN representatives will take place in Copenhagen in December this year with the aim of reaching a new international climate change agreement.
