Virgin Atlantic Takes BA AA Complaint To President
Virgin Atlantic takes BA-AA complaint to president by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Virgin Atlantic boss Sir Richard Branson has written a letter to American president Barack Obama to warn of the "dangers to consumers" that would result from an effective merger between British Airways and American Airlines.
Sir Richard contacted the president to underline the fact that today (14 August) marks the first anniversary since BA and AA first applied to regulators regarding their proposed tie-up.
Virgin Atlantic argues that the two carriers would monopolise a number of important routes between London Heathrow and the US if they are given permission to strike a partnership.
In his letter to Mr Obama, Sir Richard said that the president"s administration was nearing "a defining moment in US airline competition policy".
"If BA/AA win, it will be an unprecedented loss for consumers - prices will increase as the monopolists wield their power without competitive pricing pressure and reduced competition inevitably leads to worse customer service," he added.
"I am optimistic that your administration will stand on principle, rigorously subject BA/AA to exacting competition analysis and ultimately choose to stand on the side of consumers and competition by rejecting BA/AA"s anti-trust application. Now, more than ever, consumers are counting on you to put their interests first."
