Major surfing events to be held in New Zealand by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Tourism New Zealand has confirmed that a number of high-profile surfing events will be taking place in the country in 2010.
Getting the year underway will be the World Junior Surfing Championships, which will be held at Piha beach in west Auckland in January.
It was also confirmed this week that the Taranaki region on New Zealand"s North Island would provide the venue for the women"s leg of the prestigious Dream Tour.
Elite surfers from around the world will visit the country from 14 to 18 April next year to take part in the competition, which will be the biggest surfing event ever held in New Zealand.
A television audience of around 50m viewers is expected to tune in to watch the contest.
Brodie Carr, international chief executive of the ASP Women"s World Tour, said: "The region is ripe with world class waves and it"s a fantastic opportunity to showcase the talents of our outstanding female athletes."
The 2009 Women"s World Tour will continue until December this year, with events set to take place in Portugal (26-30 October), Hawaii (24 November-6 December) and other destinations.
