An inflight mobile service will be launched on British Airways" flights to New York from London City airport, which will begin operating tomorrow (29 September).
OnAir will provide the facility, which will enable passengers to use smartphones and mobiles to access the internet and send text messages and emails.
Willie Walsh, chief executive of BA, said every aspect of its business-class only service from London City to New York had been designed to maximise convenience for customers.
He added: "The UK"s first mobile phone access on transatlantic flights means that customers can work and keep in touch with the office between London and New York via email and texts."
Benoit Debains, chief executive of OnAir, said: "The launch marks a further and very significant milestone in airline take-up of inflight connectivity. Mobile OnAir will support British Airways in providing their passengers with the very highest service levels on this long-haul route."
OnAir currently provides mobile connectivity on 10,000 flights every month to over 280 cities in Europe, the Middle East and north Africa.
