Older travellers "considering gap years" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Nearly half (49%) of British people aged between 55 and 64 would like to take time out to travel, according to a new survey.
The Halifax poll also found that 59% of people in this age group would not be discouraged from their dream trip by financial concerns.
Over half (58%) of 16- to 24-year-olds would be prepared to wait until later in life to travel the world, according to the research.
Three to six months would be the ideal duration for 12% of Brits planning to go travelling, while 11% said they would prefer to go away for six months or more.
Commenting on the so-called "grey gapper" phenomenon, Halifax spokesman Russell Galley said: "A mature gap year is a wonderful opportunity to experience different ways of life and see other parts of the world."
Europe was found to be the most attractive destination for people in the 55 to 64 age group, followed by Australia and New Zealand, Asia and Africa.
