Stansted Promotes Green Credentials
Stansted promotes green credentials by Cheap Flights Booker UK
London Stansted hosted an event this week that allowed the airport to showcase the work it is carrying out to reduce its carbon footprint.
Stansted"s Radisson Hotel was the venue for the Airport Operators Association"s regional conference, which was attended by representatives from local air travel hubs, MEPs and business organisations.
Speaking at the event, Dr Andy Jefferson, the airport"s head of environment, referred to initiatives including the installation of a wood chip biomass boiler, which was part of a £50m terminal extension project last year.
"This has already helped us reduce our gas consumption at the airport by over 40%. We have one of the largest biomass boilers in commercial use for heating in the UK at present and cannot express enough how satisfied we are with its performance to date," Dr Jefferson said.
"But we will not become complacent and will continue our efforts to influence schemes aimed at reducing emission sources on the ground at Stansted, a current example of which is our participation in a working group to encourage single engine taxiing of aircraft."
Representatives from British Airways, SAS and Qatar Airways attended a climate change forum in New York this week to announce a new target for the aviation industry to halve its net carbon emissions by 2050.
